Amazing Arabic Starter- Hummus

This dish can be preserved in the refrigerator for about 4-5 days. This is a special and unique dish of Middle East (Arabia). This food item is prepared from mashed and cooked chickpeas. You might have tasted the most popular Punjabi dish chick-pea curry and batura. 

This new and varied chickpeas Arabian dish will make you feel delighted. The taste is so splendid that you would wish to have it again and again. It is a starter that can be served along with fries, burgers, sandwiches, steamed or roasted veggies, roti’s and naans. The recipe can be prepared in minutes after the chickpeas are cooked till they are turned out to be squashy.

Servings: 2-3 Scoops

Ingredients required for making Hummus:

½ cup chickpeas, soaked for 9 hours and then placed in a cooker for boiling till it turns softer
Olive oil half cup.
3-4 garlic cloves
Lemon juice for about one tea spoon
Pepper or red chili dust for about 1-2 tea spoons
Cumin powder 1 tea spoon
½ cup Sesame seeds, roasted and grinded
Coriander or Parsley for garnishing the dish
Salt for taste as per the requirement.

Method of Preparing Hummus:

  • If you are planning to prepare hummus than you require soaking the chickpeas for about 8-9 hours. It is better if the chickpeas are soaked in the night. 
  • Once they are ready for cooking, boil them in a pressure cooker (8-9 whistles), and check whether they have become softer. 
  • Roast sesame seeds and then blend it in a grinder till it is powdered.
  • Now use a blender or a wet grinder to prepare a paste of boiled chickpeas, salt and spices. 
  • Place the mixture in a container. 
  • Now mix the sesame powder in the chickpeas paste. 
  • Enhance olive oil and lemon juice to the mixture. 
  • Savor the recipe with Parsley or coriander leaves. 

The dish is ready to be served with roasted bread, fries or veggies.
